In 2020, the sales revenue of China's lighting appliance industry was approximately 602.5 billion yuan. In 2020, the entire industry achieved exports of 52.6 billion US dollars, setting a new historical high. During the 13th Five Year Plan period, the cumulative export value of the entire industry was about 220 billion US dollars, an increase of 27.09% compared to the 12th Five Year Plan period. In the past five years, the transformation and upgrading of traditional production areas in the lighting industry such as Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Fujian have achieved significant results. Structural adjustment yields results


Overall, during the 13th Five Year Plan period, the lighting appliance industry has achieved significant results in gradually phasing out low-end and energy consuming products and adjusting product structure.


LED lighting products have made significant progress, and the proportion of production and sales of various LED lighting products has further increased. LED lighting products such as LED tube lights, LED flat lights, and LED ceiling lights have experienced rapid development during the 13th Five Year Plan period. At the end of the 13th Five Year Plan period, the sales of LED lighting products in China exceeded 400 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of over 100% compared to the end of 2015; The sales proportion of LED lighting products has increased from 30% in 2015 to over 60% by the end of 2020; The export value of LED lighting products exceeded 30 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of about 178% compared to the end of 2015. The proportion of export value increased from about 25% at the end of 2015 to over 65% in 2020. By the end of the 13th Five Year Plan period, LED replacement light sources had accounted for over 50% of the total production of electric light sources and over 60% of the export volume of electric light sources.


With the rapid development of LED lighting products, the production and export volume of traditional electric light sources such as incandescent lamps and fluorescent lamps continue to decrease. Compared to the end of the 12th Five Year Plan, the production of incandescent lamps decreased by about 500 million units and the export volume decreased by more than 148 million units in the end of the 13th Five Year Plan; The production of fluorescent lamps decreased by more than 2 billion units year-on-year, and the export volume decreased by about 1.9 billion units year-on-year; The production of high-intensity gas discharge lamps decreased by about 150 million units year-on-year, and the export volume decreased by more than 50 million units year-on-year; The production of tungsten halogen lamps decreased by about 800 million units year-on-year, and the export volume decreased by more than 300 million units year-on-year.


During the 13th Five Year Plan period, China's lighting industry accelerated the adjustment of its industry structure, gradually transforming from a simple lighting product manufacturing industry to a comprehensive industry that integrates light sources, lamps, power supplies, supporting facilities, accessories, lighting design, engineering construction and installation, and cross-border integration.

The development strength of the enterprise has been enhanced


According to incomplete statistics, during the 13th Five Year Plan period, the number of lighting related enterprises in China exceeded 20000. The development momentum of enterprises is rapid, and their economic strength is increasing day by day. Through various means such as restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, acquisitions, reorganizations, and the introduction of social capital, enterprises have made up for their shortcomings, expanded production capacity, expanded channels, and built brands, continuously enhancing their comprehensive strength. They have made significant progress in the automation level of lighting product production, product types, and lamp integration. Enterprises are transforming and upgrading from single product manufacturing to service-oriented manufacturing enterprises that can provide system solutions such as design, manufacturing, and installation. The industry focuses on brand building, and the strength of national brands is gradually strengthening.

Further enhancement of technological innovation strength


During the 13th Five Year Plan period, industry enterprises will pay more attention to increasing research and development investment, with some large and medium-sized enterprises in the lighting industry investing more than 2% of their main business income in research and development. The innovation capability of the industry has been enhanced, and dozens of lighting companies have won various important honors such as the National Science and Technology Progress Award, China Patent Award, China Light Industry Federation Technology Invention Award, Science and Technology Progress Award, and China International Lighting Fixture Design Competition. Nearly 60 technologies from over 60 lighting related enterprises have been recognized with national level scientific and technological progress awards, patent awards, and other awards.

Progress has been made in quality and standardization work


During the 13th Five Year Plan period, the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Lighting Appliances completed and released 38 national standards, including 19 related to LED lighting; 10 industry standards, including 2 related to LED lighting. Based on the release and implementation of standards, combined with the fourth phase of the international cooperation project of the "China Green Lighting Project", the industry has focused on improving the quality of LED lighting products. The performance of the main LED lighting products has gradually improved, and the quality pass rate has continued to increase. The national lottery results show that the quality level of LED lighting products has increased from about 80% during the 12th Five Year Plan period to about 90% during the 13th Five Year Plan period.


With the progress of standardization work reform, the supply mode of standards has undergone profound changes after the introduction of the new Standardization Law. The standardization work of the lighting industry and related fields is very active. Several Chinese lighting industry experts from Shanghai Times Light Lighting Appliance Testing Co., Ltd., National Electric Light Source Quality Supervision and Inspection Center (Beijing) and other institutions have undertaken the drafting and formulation of relevant standards of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), laying the foundation for promoting innovative development, improving product quality, and enhancing international competitiveness.

Chinese lighting companies actively participate in overseas exhibitions, and the internationalization pace of the industry's "going global" is accelerating. More and more companies are strategically planning their global layout with a business perspective. Chinese companies have become an important exhibitor group in international lighting exhibitions held in countries such as the United States, Europe, India, Brazil, Japan, and South Korea. Especially at the Frankfurt International Lighting Exhibition, the world's largest and most influential professional lighting exhibition, the number and scale of Chinese companies participating in the exhibition have increased year by year during the 13th Five Year Plan period, making them the countries with the most participation in the exhibition.


With further exchanges between China's lighting industry and the world's lighting industry, numerous important international collaborations and activities in the lighting industry continue to be carried out in China. During the 13th Five Year Plan period, the international cooperation project launched by the National Development and Reform Commission, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Global Environment Facility in the field of green lighting - China's "Promoting the Conversion of Semiconductor Lighting Market and Promoting Energy saving and Environmental Protection New Light Source Project" - has ended as scheduled. The enterprise actively fulfills its social responsibilities and actively participates in social welfare activities by donating lighting products for teenagers to learn, transforming the lighting environment of classrooms in remote areas, caring for the visual health of the elderly, and assisting in the use of ultraviolet disinfection and sterilization supplies for epidemic prevention and control. During the 13th Five Year Plan period, the China Lighting and Electrical Appliances Association called on and organized lighting companies to carry out classroom lighting renovation projects, with a total of over 10000 classrooms and tens of thousands of donated lighting products of various types.

The development and changes of the lighting industry during the 13th Five Year Plan period are the fruits of a series of practical measures taken by the industry to adjust its supply side structure from scale and speed to high-quality development.
