On January 14th, the Municipal Party Committee held a retreat to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Central Economic Work Conference, implement the deployment of the 11th and 12th Plenary Sessions of the 12th Provincial Party Committee, study and plan the development ideas and work priorities of our city during the 14th Five Year Plan period in 2021, and lay out a layout for the economic and social development work in the new year and the longer term in the future. The Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, Lai Zehua, presided over the meeting and delivered a speech.

At the meeting, relevant comrades from the Standing Committee of the Municipal Party Committee, the Standing Committee of the Municipal People's Congress, the Municipal Government, and the Municipal Political Consultative Conference spoke separately, focusing on the central work of the city and their respective areas of responsibility, seeking problems, ideas, and countermeasures, and putting forward thoughts on how to implement, break through, and highlight the next steps of work.

Previously, our city's party and government delegation visited advanced cities in the Greater Bay Area and Yangtze River Delta for inspection. We saw the great development spirit, new path, practical measures, and good results of each city. We also saw that the "little partners" who used to run on the same track have joined the GDP "trillion club" one after another. We were deeply shocked and under pressure, but also inspired and motivated.

When will the gross domestic product of Zhongshan region exceed 500 billion yuan and when will it exceed 1 trillion yuan? Where are our support points, growth points, and implementation paths? This is the 'question of the times' that we must answer well.

Lai Zehua emphasized that we should not only look up at the stars, but also be down-to-earth.

Faced with the development of regional competition and a new round of urban reshuffling, we cannot afford to wait or be slow; Faced with the opportunity of the "Five Year Plan for a Hundred Year Plan", we are not afraid of difficulties and will not slack off.

One is to play the first move of a good transportation hub

Learn from Nantong's experience of relying on the Sutong Bridge and the Shanghai Sutong Public Railway Bridge, crossing the river and connecting with Jiangsu and Shanghai, and spanning three hundred billion steps in four years. Accelerate the planning and promotion of major transportation infrastructure docking between our city and Guangzhou and Shenzhen, catch up with the fast train of "dual city linkage", and open up the "channel" for upgrading energy levels.

The second is to build ballast stones for major platforms

Make the construction of the "3+4" major platform the "number one project" in the city, mobilize the city's efforts to implement the "Three Year Action Plan for Major Platform Construction", and take the big step of urban renewal through ideological liberation, ensuring that major platform construction achieves key turning points and substantial breakthroughs this year, truly seeking space from existing resources and benefits from reform.

Thirdly, it is the driving force behind the development of the manufacturing industry

Vigorously promoting the "5321" project, focusing on attracting and cultivating the three strategic emerging industries of biomedicine, high-end equipment manufacturing, and new generation electronic information, and creating industrial pillars that support high-quality development;
